URBANA, Ill. – The Illinois women's tennis team lost a close match to Nebraska on Sunday afternoon by a score of 4-3. This win moves the Illini to 3-6 (3-6) on the year and moves Nebraska to 7-3 (7-3).

Illinois conceded the doubles point to start the day. Senior Asuka Kawai and sophomore Josie Frazier won their match on court one (6-3), but it was not enough as the Illini fell on courts two and three.

In singles play, freshman Kate Duong evened the score with a win in straight sets on court two (6-1, 6-4). After dropping the matches on courts one and three, the Illini had a chance to make the 3-1 comeback standing in good position on remaining courts.

Senior Emilee Duong (4-6, 6-2, 6-4) and Frazier (3-6, 6-1, 6-4) each took exceptional wins on courts three and five to even the score 3-3. It all came down to court four, where sophomore Ashley Yeah unfortunately fell in a thrilling match in the third set.

Next Up

Next weekend, the Illini are back at Atkins for two more home conference matches. On Saturday, March 20 they will take on Indiana at 11:00 a.m. followed by Purdue on Sunday, March 21 at 12:00 p.m.
