CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -- The NCAA announced the 64 at-large selections for the 2021 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships at the Enterprise Center in St. Louis. The Illini have two automatic qualifiers in redshirt freshman Lucas Byrd and senior Dylan Duncan, while sophomore Luke Luffman and redshirt sophomores Danny Braunagel and Zac Braunagel earned at-large bids.
"It's good to be closer to home for this year's tournament, especially for the Braunagel twins," said head coach Jim Heffernan. "I'm looking forward to seeing what our five guys can do."
Lucas Byrd leads the Illini with 11 wins this season. Byrd went 4-1 at the Big Ten Championships last weekend in University Park, Pa., capping off the weekend with a third-place finish at 133-pounds. Dylan Duncan is 7-4 on the season and finished in seventh place at the Big Ten Championships at 141-pounds. This will be Duncan's fourth appearance at the NCAA Championships.
