2022 Fighting Illini Softball Schedule

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Fighting Illini Softball head coach Tyra Perry announced the 2022 schedule Tuesday (Dec. 7). The spring slate for the Illini includes 54 total games, four non-conference tournaments, and the return of the Big Ten Tournament after a year hiatus due to COVID-19. The Illini return 19 members of the 2020 squad that went 24-20 in a Big Ten only schedule, while welcoming in eight newcomers.  

"Our 2022 schedule is a reflection of the maturation of this team and program over the past few seasons. We will face traditional SEC powerhouses such as LSU and Arkansas. We will also take on the challenge of competing against top contenders in the ACC Clemson and Louisville" head coach Tyra Perry said. "Our home opener will be an exciting three game series with Miami of Ohio. Miami is a well coached team that won the MAC and was an NCAA Tournament team last year. This season will be challenging but very exciting. The plan is to fight for each other and play clean softball. We have what it takes to achieve greatness in 2022." 

All games and times are subject to change. All times are central standard time. Broadcast information will be announced at a later date.

SCHEDULE NOTES

• 54 total games in the 2022 regular season, including 34 non-conference games and 23 conference matchups.
• Illinois plays 23 games at Eichelberger Field in 2022, and opens the home slate on Mar. 19 against Miami (OH).
• Illinois will participate in four-straight non-conference tournaments to begin the season.
• The Illini play 22 games against 12 teams that participated in the NCAA Tournament last season (LSU, South Alabama, Wichita St., Arkansas, Liberty, Clemson, Missouri, Miami (OH), SIUE, Minnesota, Northwestern, Louisiana-Lafyette).
• Illinois plays 10 games against teams that advanced to NCAA Regional Finals last season (Wichita St., Liberty, Clemson, Louisiana-Lafyette, Minnesota).
• UI matches up in five games against teams advancing to NCAA Super Regionals last season (Missouri, Arkansas, LSU).
• The Big Ten Conference slate opens with Illinois traveling to Purdue for a three-game series Mar. 25-27.
• The Big Ten Tournament returns after a one-year hiatus due to COVID-19 and will be hosted by Michigan State on May 12-14.
