FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The No. 12-ranked Fighting Illini men's golf team returns to the course this week, competing at the Blessings Collegiate Invitational hosted by the University of Arkansas. A unique event that features both the men's and women's teams from each of the 10 participating schools, the Blessings will be televised with daily coverage from 3-6 p.m. CT on GOLF Channel.
THE SETTING
The second annual Blessings Collegiate Invitational will be held at Blessings Golf Club in Fayetteville, Ark., home of the 2019 NCAA Championship. The course will play at Par-72, 7,700 yards for the men's teams.
The Blessings Golf Club is designed through two distinct landforms – the Clear Creek floodplain and a plateau that rises to 65 feet above the floodplain where it's bisected by a series of ravines. Both the outward and inward nines climb up and down between the two topographies, creating drama and variety on each hole. The course was originally designed by architect Robert Trent Jones, Jr. with a redesign recently completed by noted architect Kyle Phillips.
TOURNAMENT FORMAT
The 54-hole tournament will be a five-count-four format over three days, with 18 holes slated for each day of competition.
THE FIELD
The field includes eight men's programs currently ranked or receiving votes in the latest Bushnell/Golfweek Coaches' Top-25 poll. The No. 12 Illini will be joined by No. 6-ranked North Carolina and No. 9 Texas Tech. Host Arkansas is 14th, one spot ahead of No. 15 Tennessee. Arizona, Louisville, and Ole Miss are also receiving top-25 votes, while Houston and UCLA round out the strong field.

ILLINI AT THE BLESSINGS COLLEGIATE INVITATIONAL
The Fighting Illini have never competed in the Blessings Collegiate Invitational with the event in only its second year. However, the Orange and Blue did compete at Blessings Golf Club for the 2019 NCAA Championship where seniors Adrien Dumont de Chassart and Tommy Kuhl, then freshmen, finished tied for 88th and 108th, respectively.
UP NEXT
The Illini close out their fall competition schedule, Oct. 16-19, in Windermere, Fla., at the prestigious Isleworth Collegiate (previously the Tavistock Collegiate). The tournament is held at Isleworth Golf & Country Club, and is widely regarded as one of the top events on the college golf schedule. The Illini have competed in the event 11 times since 2007, including each of the last eight (2012-19), taking home the team title in 2015.
INDIVIDUALS COMPETING IN DECATUR
In addition to the Illini competing at the Blessings Collegiate Invitational, four Illinois golfers – senior Luke Armbrust, junior Nico Lang, and freshmen TJ Barger and Jackson Buchanan – will compete as individual competitors, Oct. 3-4, at the Millikin Country Club Classic, hosted by Millikin University in nearby Decatur, Ill.
