
Illini Finish Strong with Sixth Place at the Big Ten Championships

SHELBYVILLE-Ind. - The Illinois men's cross country team finished in sixth place at the Big Ten Championships on Saturday afternoon at Blue River Cross Country Course in Shelbyville, Ind. Redshirt-Senior Jon Davis finished the race extremely strong, barely taking second place overall. For his second place finish, he was awarded with first team All-Big Ten Conference honors.
"Jon's dedication to return to a high level and perform for his team was demonstrated today," head cross country coach Sarah Haveman said. "Through plenty of hardships, he has stayed dedicated to our program and his teammates. We are excited for the future and proud of how he has persevered."
The Fighting Illini finished with a team score of 155 and had four runners finish within the top-40 overall.
Following Davis to the finish line was freshman Tyler Cushing in 31st place with a time of 24:50 and junior Colin Yandel in 37th with a 25:02.7. Rounding out the Illini's top five were sophomore Jack Roberts and freshman Will Giblin, placing 45th and 55th respectively. Roberts timed a 25:22.4, while Giblin finished the race in 25:42.1.
"Our men took a great step forward today," Haveman commented. "They continue to stay dedicated to the process and one another. We are excited to build upon this. It was exciting to see freshmen Tyler Cushing and Will Giblin both step up into scoring position."
