CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The Big Ten Conference released the 2021 women's soccer schedule Friday morning.
The Illini will play a total of six games against divisional opponents and five crossover games. The weekend of April 8-11 will be called "wildcard weekend" and will consist of 1-2 nonconference matchups, but against Big Ten opponents.
The Big Ten Championship weekend will consist of two semifinal games and one championship game, hosted by the highest seed remaining.
"It is truly an understatement to say that we are excited to see the Big Ten Women's Soccer schedule" said head coach Janet Rayfield. "Competing is the ultimate driving force for student athletes and seeing dates and opponents has put a smile on a lot of faces today. Now we really get to work and make sure we do everything we can to be our best on February 20th against Purdue."
The Illini begin their season with three straight home matchups against Purdue, Iowa and Penn State. After three straight road games against Minnesota, Iowa and Purdue, the Illini return home to face Nebraska and Ohio State. The Illini end the Big Ten season traveling to Michigan, Michigan State and Northwestern. "Wildcard weekend" will occur April 8-11, and the Big Ten Tournament will occur April 15-18.
All dates are subject to change, and times and TV designations are to be announced. At this time, no fans will be permitted at home matches in accordance with State of Illinois COVID -19 restrictions.
