Hey Illini Fans!
My name is Jaelyn Vickery and I am a freshman utility from Kankakee, Illinois. I am majoring in dietetics and plan to become a clinical dietitian and eventually open my own private practice once I graduate.
The team has just returned from competing in the Red and Black Challenge in Louisville, Kentucky. We started out strong winning our first two games and ended up 2–2 on the weekend. It was not the end result we wanted but we are getting better everyday.
Being away from home for the first time can be challenging as a freshman. Missing your family, budgeting your time, and adjusting to a new environment can be difficult. A visit from a great Illini alumni, Stephanie Abello, was a tremendous help. She encouraged me, affirmed me, and showed me why I wanted to become part of the Fighting Illini. I am truly inspired and so thankful for the support from the University of Illinois, alumni, and my softball family. When you compete as an Illini athlete, you are not only bred to become a champion for four years, but you become a champion for life.
I'm looking forward to seeing all of you at Eichelberger Field on March 14th for our home opener!
I-L-L
