URBANA, Ill. – The Illinois women's tennis team defeated Purdue, 4-1, on Sunday at Atkins Tennis Center. The Illini improve to 5-9 on the season, and 1-0 in Big Ten play, while Purdue falls to 5-8 overall, 0-2 in the Big Ten.
Purdue won early, grabbing the point in doubles competition. At No. 1, the duo of Nathalia Wolf Gasparin and Zala Dovnik of Purdue defeated freshman Josie Frazier and junior Emilee Duong 6-2. The duo of Ena Babic and Alex Sabe for Purdue then defeated junior Mia Rabinowitz and freshman Ashley Yeah 6-4 to clinch the point in doubles competition.
The Illini managed to bounce back in singles competition, collecting four straight points. On No. 4, Frazier defeated Nikol Dobrilova of Purdue 6-3, 6-3, followed by Yeah defeating Dovnik of Purdue 6-3, 6-3 on No. 5. Duong defeated Seira Shimizu of Purdue 6-4, 6-1 on No. 3, and Rabinowitz defeated Babic of Purdue 6-4, 6-2 to clinch the match for the Illini.
Junior Sasha Belaya and freshman Emily Casati both had their matches halted on No. 2 and 6, respectively.
