March 8, 2020 | Men's Tennis
URBANA, Ill, - Fighting Illini men's tennis improved to 2-0 in the Big Ten with a 4-0 win over Purdue on Sunday. Vuk Budic, Siphosothando Montsi, and Fletcher Scott picked up wins in singles after the Illini won the doubles point.
"The biggest thing was just starting off on the right foot in the Big Ten," head coach Brad Dancer said. "We've been in a lot of great battles and just haven't come out on top in a lot of them. It was great to turn that tide at Northwestern yesterday. As we look up and down the board and see the way we're capable of playing and how we're playing right now, we've gt to figure out how we're going to get our guys playing better. And that's on us as coaches."
Alex Brown and Aleks Kovacevic picked up a 6-3 win on Court 1 in doubles, followed shortly by a 6-3 win by Montsi and Gui Gomes. Budic secured the second point of the match, winning by retirement on Court 6. Montsi earned a 6-3, 6-2 win on Court 2, and Scott capped the match with a 7-5, 6-1 win on Court 4.
The Illini are back in action Saturday at 6 p.m. against TCU at Atkins Tennis Center.
