URBANA, Ill. - The Fighting Illini men's tennis team lost 7-0 to No. 3 Florida at Atkins Tennis Center on Friday.
"Florida is a strong team," head coach Brad Dancer said. "We knew that going in and knew how tough this match would be. I felt the changes we made in doubles would be a catalyst for us. I was wrong. I have a lot of belief in this team. I know these guys can turn it around. We have another great challenge on Sunday, so we will see if we can stop the bleeding."
Illinois fell behind early after Florida took the doubles point and followed up quickly with two straight-set wins. Siphosothando Montsi and Lucas Horve both battled back to win the second set of their respective matches, but it was not enough as the Gators finally picked up the clinching point on Court 2.
The Orange and Blue return to Atkins on Sunday to take on No. 24 Central Florida.
