CHICAGO, Ill. – The University of Illinois women's tennis team fell to UCLA, 4-0, in the opening round of the 2020 ITA National Indoor Championships, hosted by the Illini, at the XS Tennis Village in Chicago on Friday night. The Orange and Blue will play No. 5 Texas on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. CT.

"Obviously, a really tough one tonight against a very good UCLA team. They played the bigger points better than us in doubles and jumped on us early in singles," said head coach Evan Clark. "I was pleased with the way we competed and handled ourselves tonight. Our team will only get better with each match and we are excited for another opportunity to compete against another top-10 team tomorrow night."

In doubles action, UCLA picked up the point over the Illini after posting wins at No. 1 and No. 2. Junior Emilee Duong and freshman Josie Frazier fell, 1-6, against their Bruins opponents, Elysia Bolton and Jada Hart. Juniors Sasha Belaya and Mia Rabinowitz were downed by UCLA's Abbey Forbes and Annette Goulak, 3-6, for the Bruins to clinch the double point.

The Bruins took the victory with singles wins at No. 2, No. 3 and No. 6. Forbes of UCLA grabbed the first singles point on the night after a 6-2, 6-0, win over Rabinowitz at the No. 2 spot. At No. 3, UCLA's Hart powered past Belaya, 6-2, 6-2, the third point for the Bruins. Duong was downed by her Bruins opponent Sasha Vagramov, 6-1, 6-3.
