LAS VEGAS – Former Fighting Illini Alex Diab competed in the final round of the 2020 Winter Cup Challenge on Saturday night at the Westgate Resort.  Diab claimed the still rings title and placed in the top-20 on all events.

After registering a 14.600 on still rings in the preliminary round on Thursday, Diab scored a 14.850 to finish with a two-day total of 29.450 to place first on the event.

Diab also competed on floor exercise, vault and high bar, placing within the top-20 on each apparatus. The former Illini put up a two-day total of 27.000 on floor, which tied him for 15th with Donothan Bailey of U.S.O.P.T.C. Diab posted a 27.700 (14th) and a 24.600 (19th) on vault and high bar, respectively.

The Orange and Blue will visit Iowa on March 1 in Iowa City, Iowa. Meet action is set to begin at 1 p.m. CT.

Next Home Meet

Join the Fighting Illini men's gymnastics team for a tri-meet at Huff Hall against Michigan and Penn State on Saturday, March 7 at 4 p.m. CT for Senior Day.

Before the meet, there will be a ceremony held to recognize the five Illini seniors. At the conclusion of the meet, the team will hold a post-meet autograph session. Free Senior posters will be distributed to the first 100 fans, and there will be a free kids zone and a balloon artist in attendance.
