WACO, Texas – The Illinois women's tennis team wrapped up its weekend in Texas with a 4-1 loss to Baylor at the Hawkins Indoor Tennis Center on Sunday afternoon. The Illini now hold a 3-6 record on the season, while Baylor improves to 7-0.
In doubles competition, junior Emilee Duong and freshman Josie Frazier were downed, 6-1, at No. 1 by Mel Krywoj and Alicia Herrero Linana of Baylor. Illini duo of juniors Asuka Kawai and Mia Rabinowitz powered past their Bears opponents, Kris Sorokolet and Anastasia Kharitonva, 6-2 at No. 3 to the matches at one apiece. Baylor notched the doubles point as junior Sasha Belaya and freshman Emily Casati fell, 6-4, to Baylor's Paula Baranano and Angie Shakhraichuk.
The Bears took the first singles point of the day when Herrero Linana defeated Belaya, 6-0, 6-4 at No. 3 singles. Rabinowitz downed her opponent, the 102nd-ranked Kharitonova at No. 2 with a 6-2, 6-2 win to grab the first point for the Orange and Blue. At No. 6 and No. 5 singles, Baylor's Jessica Hinojosa had a 6-4, 6-1 win over freshman Ashley Yeah, and Sorokolet clinched the match with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Duong, respectively.
Frazier and Shakhraichuk were tied 1-1 in their match, as Frazier took the first set, 6-1, and Shakhraichuk claimed the second set, 6-3. The two were halted as Baylor led 1-0 in the third set. Baylor's Livia Kraus and Kawai were stopped in the second set, as Kraus led 5-2 after defeating Kawai in the first, 6-3.

The Fighting Illini hit the road again for a pair of matches next weekend. The Orange and Blue first make their way to Eugene, Ore., on Friday, Feb. 21, to take on Oregon at 4 p.m., before traveling north to Seattle, Wash., on Sunday, Feb. 23, to face Washington at 2 p.m. CT.
