COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The University of Illinois women's tennis team fell, 4-1, to No. 20 Texas A&M at the Mitchell Tennis Center in College Station, Texas on Friday afternoon. The loss dropped the Illini to 3-5 on the season, while the Aggies improved their record to 7-2.
The Aggies' Dorthea Faa-Hviding and Lucia Quiterio took the first doubles match against Illinois' duo of freshman Emily Casati and junior Asuka Kawai, 6-0. The 43rd-ranked Texas A&M pair Jayci Goldsmith and Tatiana Makarova clinched the doubles point after defeating junior Emilee Duong and freshman Josie Frazier, 6-2, at No. 1 doubles.
Kawai claimed the first singles point for the Illini at No. 1 singles when the Palatine, Ill., native downed Katya Townsend of Texas A&M, 6-3, 6-0. The Aggies took the next three singles points at No. 4, No. 6 and No. 2. The 95th-ranked Faa-Hviding defeated freshman Ashley Yeah, 6-0, 6-2, before the Aggies' Riley McQuaid won 6-2, 6-2, over Duong. The 97th-ranked Makarova clinched the match for Texas A&M after downing junior Mia Rabinowitz, 7-5, 6-1.
