MOBILE, Ala. - Fighting Illini men's golf finished the first day of the Mobile Sports Authority Intercollegiate in third place. After 36 holes, Illinois is -14, nine strokes behind leader Texas State. Senior Giovanni Tadiotto leads the Illini at 139 (-5), tied for fifth individually.Â
Tadiotto birdied 11 of his 36 holes Monday, tied for second-most in the tournament. Senior Michael Feagles joins Tadiotto in the top 10 at 140 (-4), tied for 10th. Feagles recorded six of his nine birdies in the first round as he and Tadiotto led the Illini with matching scores of 69 (-3) on the first 18 holes of the day.
Freshman Jerry Ji and sophomore Noah Gillard are tied for 21st at 142 (-2), and sophomore Adrien Dumont de Chassart rounds out the team at 144 (E), tied for 35th.Â
Playing as individuals, junior Brendan O'Reilly is tied with Tadiotto for fifth at 139 (-5), and sophomore Tommy Kuhl is tied for 14th at 141 (-1). Senior Bryan Baumgarten rebounded from a first-round 80 (+8) to card a 68 (-4) in the second round, the lowest 18-hole score of the day by an Illini.Â
