URBANA, Ill. – The Fighting Illini women's tennis team swept Eastern Michigan (7-0) and Eastern Illinois (4-0) in a doubleheader to open up its spring slate on Sunday afternoon at Atkins Tennis Center. Illinois improves to 2-0 on the year, while the Eagles go 1-1 and the Panthers move to 5-3. The victory over EIU marked head coach Evan Clark's 100th career win.

"We had a great day today, and went 2-0, which is a fun way to start the season," said Clark. "We had a little bit of a slow start in doubles in the first match and after that they cruised and took care of business."

The Illini notched the doubles point with a two-match sweep against both Eastern Michigan and Eastern Illinois.

Juniors Sasha Belaya and Mia Rabinowitz powered past Isabelle Popma and Vasavi Ganesan at No. 2 in the first secured doubles match of the day against EMU. Next, the duo of junior Asuka Kawai and freshman Ashley Yeah defeated EMU's Natalia Regalado and Emma-Lou Pommiers 6-4.

Against Eastern Illinois, Belaya and Rabinowitz were the first to better their Panthers opponents with a 6-1 win at No. 2 doubles over Christine Gouws and Lauren Ellis. Kawai and freshman Emily Casati battled past Shelby Anderson and Kaitlyn Snyder, 6-0, to clinch the point for Illinois.

The Illini continued to dominant into singles action and won each match over both the Eagle and Panthers.

Junior Emilee Duong was the first to secure a singles point for the Fighting Illini after her 6-0, 6-0 victory over Essence Eaton of EMU on the No. 6 court. Freshman Josie Frazier, No. 4, completed her singles play with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Pommiers in her collegiate debut, while fellow freshman Emily Casati clinched the fourth team point after taking the opening set from Pommiers, 6-0, followed with a dominant 6-2 set for the win at No. 5.

Rabinowitz, Belaya and Yeah finished the shutout for Illinois at No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3, respectively, helping Illinois win 7-0 against the Eagles.

Rabinowitz picked up the first singles point for the Orange and Blue against EIU, as the Tenafly, N.J., native blew past her opponent, Brittany Steven, 6-0, 6-1. Frazier grabbed the next point after sweeping past Snyder of EIU, 6-0, 6-0. Yeah finished off the match with a 6-2, 6-0 win over EIU's Ellis, to give the Illini the 4-0 victory against the Panthers.

100th Career Win for Coach Clark

Head Coach Evan Clark earned his 100th career win on Sunday with victories over Eastern Michigan and Eastern Illinois. Clark now holds an overall record of 100-51 since starting as a head coach in 2013.

In 2013, Clark was at the helm at UNC-Wilmington, where he went 31-10 in two seasons, and led the program to its first ever Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Conference Tournament Championship.

Clark joined the Fighting Illini family in 2016, and has since amassed an impressive 69-40 overall record, including a 31-13 Big Ten record.
