CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — Several Illinois baseball players are preparing for this weekend's Major League Baseball draft, including projected top-10 round prospect Michael Massey. The MLB Draft starts Monday with the first two rounds and continues Tuesday with rounds 3-10 and Wednesday with rounds 11-40.

Illinois has had 18 MLB Draft picks over the last four years, including five last year and a program record nine in 2015. Last year Bren Spillane becomes the highest drafted position player in program history when the Reds selected him No. 82 overall (3rd round) with their first pick of the second day.

Massey, a junior second baseman, is predicted to be the first Illini called this season after hitting .324 over the last three seasons with a .989 fielding percentage. Baseball America lists Massey as the No. 188 MLB Draft prospect, which would land him in the sixth round for a slot value of $255,300.
