CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -- Illinois senior Andy Fisher was named the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) National Pitcher of the Week, the NCBWA announced Tuesday. Fisher is the second Illinois pitcher in history to earn the honor, joining Cody Sedlock on April 26, 2016.
Last Friday, Fisher dominated No. 19 Indiana, the national leader in home runs. He threw eight shutout innings to help Illinois win Game 1 and ultimately win the series.
Fisher limited Indiana to three hits and tied a season high with nine strikeouts, as the Illini handed Indiana its second shutout of the season in a 4-0 victory. The left-hander allowed only two base runners to reach second base and retired 14 in a row from the third to seventh innings.
