USA Gymnastics Release
INDIANAPOLIS - Senior Illini gymnast Alex Diab has been selected to compete at the 2019 World University Games, held July 5-14 in Naples, Italy.Â
Diab, who joins Penn State's Stephen Nedorosckik, was chosen to represent the United States following his impressive performance at the 2019 NCAA Men's Gymnastics Championships. The Glen Ellyn, Ill., native will compete on the still rings after capturing his second-consecutive NCAA Championship on the event.
Diab ends his Illinois career as the most decorated "rings guy" in program history, having accumulated a program-record 31 career still rings event titles, four-straight Big Ten Still Rings Championships and earning All-America status on the event three times during his time in the Orange and Blue.
Participation in men's gymnastics at the World University Games is a joint effort between the College Gymnastics Association, USA Gymnastics and the NCAA member institutions. The World University Games is a multisport event held every two years. Participants must be born between January 1, 1994, and December 31, 2001; have taken at least one three-credit course towards a degree or diploma within the last year before the games; and the athlete must be "progressing towards a degree."
