COLUMBUS, Ohio. – The Illinois softball team fell in its Big Ten Conference series opener at Ohio State, 9-0 in five innings, on a cold Friday (April 26) evening at Buckeye Field.
The Buckeyes (30-14, 13-5 B1G) scored in every inning en route to the run-rule decision. Sophomore Bella Loya earned a walk in the fifth, but that would be it for the Illini (27-20, 6-12 B1G).
Freshman Sydney Sickels (17-12) took the loss after allowing seven earned runs on nine hits and five walks and struck out four in 4.2 innings.

The Illini continues their final road conference series of the season at Ohio State with a 1 p.m. CT contest in Buckeye Field on Saturday (April 27).
