PREVIEW

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -- Two of the top teams in the Big Ten face off this weekend when Illinois travels to Nebraska. The Illini are the top-ranked team in the conference at No. 23 in the RPI with Nebraska third at No. 37.

Illinois (26-13, 6-6 Big Ten) is taking a four-game winning streak to Nebraska after sweeping Penn State last weekend and beating Bradley in extra innings Tuesday. The Illini got to .500 in the Big Ten after a slow start in conference games.

Nebraska (22-14, 11-4 Big Ten) sits just .017 percentage points behind Indiana for the top spot in the Big Ten after all teams reached the halfway point last weekend. The standings are a log jam in the middle, as only 1 1/2 games separate fourth place from ninth place.

The Huskers have swept Michigan State, Purdue and Penn State in conference play and lost two of three at Minnesota and at Iowa. Nebraska has been led by strong pitching, especially its starters, as Friday's Matt Waldron and Saturday's Nate Fisher both have ERAs below 3.00.

Friday's game will be televised by Big Ten Network with the last two games streamed via BTN Plus. Dave Loane has the radio call for all three games on the Fighting Illini Sports Network.
