Illini Sweep Friday Doubleheader

URBANA, Ill. - The Illinois women's tennis team kicked off its three-match weekend strong, as the Illini took down both Penn State (4-1) and Northern Iowa (4-0) Friday night at Atkins Tennis Center. With the victories, the Illini improve to 13-7 overall on the season and 7-3 in conference play.

Match One vs. Penn State | W, 4-1

Despite dropping the doubles point to the Nittany Lions, Illinois rolled past Penn State on Friday. Mia Rabinowitz got the Illini started in singles with a 6-2, 6-2 straight-set victory on court two over Olivia Rohrbacher and Emilee Duong followed with a 1-6, 6-2, 6-0 win over Penn State's Frederikke Svarre. Illinois clinched with wins on three and four, as Sasha Belaya took down Chelsea Sawyer, 6-2, 2-6, 6-2, and Jaclyn Swikes earned a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Samantha Smith.

Match Two vs. Northern Iowa | W, 4-0

Illinois kept the momentum from the first match and carried it right into its match against Northern Iowa, as the Illini took the doubles point with at No. 1 and No. 3 to claim the early one-point advantage. The Orange and Blue needed only three singles wins to clinch the match and got them Mia Rabinowitz, Emilee Duong and Daniela Pedraza Novak.

Rabinowitz took down Claudia Toledo, 6-0, 6-1, while Duong secured a 6-2, 6-0 win over Daisy Phillips. The match was clinched by Novak, as the senior picked up a 6-0, 6-2 over UNI's Davi Patterson.

Up next, the Illini return to Atkins Tennis Center for a Senior Day matchup against No. 18 Ohio State.
