Streak in University Park: Penn State W-2
Last Meeting: PSU 83, ILL 76 // Feb. 23 at Champaign
Underwood vs. Penn State: 0-2
Opening Tips
• Illinois closes out the regular season on the road, facing Penn State on Sunday (11 a.m. CDT, FS1).
• This is the second meeting in just 15 days between the programs, after the Nittany Lions won in Champaign on Feb. 23. The Illini have split with four of the six teams it has played twice so far in league play: Minnesota, Nebraska, Northwestern and Ohio State.
• Illinois is looking to snap a five-game skid against Penn State in the season series. Illinois' last victory over the Nittany Lions was Jan. 31, 2015 in Champaign. The Illini's last win at the Jordan Center, meanwhile, came on Feb. 9, 2014.
• Ayo Dosunmu (14.1 ppg) is vying to become the first-ever true freshman to lead the Illini in scoring. The only other rookie to finish as the Illini's season-leading scorer was Cory Bradford as a redshirt freshman in 1999.
• The Illini have won five of their last nine games, are 6-5 in the last 11, and 7-7 over the last 14 after starting Big Ten play 0-5.
• With a victory Sunday, Illinois would double its conference win total over last season and secure its biggest jump in 10 years. In 2009 the Illini won 11 league games after winning five in 2008.
Big Ten Tourney Scenarios
The Big Ten Tournament will be held next week at the United Center in Chicago. Illinois has a seed range of 8 through 12 entering Sunday's game at Penn State. Two other games, Rutgers at Indiana (11 am CDT) and Wisconsin at Ohio State (3:30 pm CDT), could have an impact on Illinois' seed.
Here are the potential scenarios for the Illini:
» If Illinois beats Penn State Sunday, Illinois clinches a first-round bye…
• Illinois is the 8 seed and will play 9 seed Ohio State if Indiana and Ohio State both lose Sunday
• Illinois is the 9 seed and will play 8 seed Minnesota if Indiana loses and Ohio State wins Sunday
• Illinois is the 10 seed and will play 7 seed Ohio State if Indiana and Ohio State both win Sunday
• Illinois is the 10 seed and will play 7 seed Minnesota if Indiana wins and Ohio State loses Sunday
» If Illinois loses to Penn State Sunday, Illinois will play in the first round…
• Illinois is the 11 seed and will play 14 seed Northwestern if Indiana wins Sunday.
• Illinois is the 12 seed and will play 13 seed Nebraska if Indiana loses Sunday.
