LAS VEGAS – Fighting Illini men's golf continued play at the Southern Highlands Collegiate on Monday, posting a team total 1-under par for the second round. Junior Bryan Baumgarten continued to lead Illinois on Monday, firing a second-round tally 3-under par (69) to sit in a tie for sixth individually.  He is joined among the top 25 individuals by junior Michael Feagles who is 1-over par through two rounds of play.

As a team, Illinois is 1-over par through two rounds of play and sits ninth in the tournament field. Georgia Tech sits atop the leaderboard with a total score 11-under par, and is joined among the top three teams by Stanford (-10) and Oklahoma (-8)

After firing an opening round 71 on Sunday, Baumgarten continued his solid play for Illinois on Monday. He used two birdies on the front nine to make the turn at 2-under par, and added two more birdies on the back nine to negate his only bogey on the day.

Currently tied for 24th individually, Feagles started his day on a high note with a birdie on the first hole. He added another birdie on the front nine to negate an early bogey and was 1-under par at the turn. Feagles shot even through the back nine to finish his day 1-under par and bring his two-round tally to 1-over.

Sophomore Brendan O'Reilly and junior Giovanni Tadiotto posted scores 4-over par on Monday. O'Reilly is 3-over par through two rounds and tied for 37th individually, while Tadiotto is 6-over par in total.

Freshman Tommy Kuhl is 7-over par through two rounds of play at Southern Highlands. He shot 1-under par on Monday, carding three birdies on the day.

THE TOURNAMENT

A three-day, 54-hole tournament, the Southern Highlands Collegiate is held on the Par 72, 7,510-yard course at Southern Highlands Golf Club. The 15 team field includes several teams ranked among the top 25 in the latest Bushnell Golfweek Coaches Poll, including: No. 5 Georgia Tech, No. 6 USC, No. 8 Texas, No. 9 Oklahoma, No. 11 Auburn, No. 14 Pepperdine, No. 15 California, No. 19 Texas Tech and No. 25 Illinois as well as Florida, Stanford, TCU, UCF, UCLA and UNLV. Additionally, 14 of the 15 teams competing sit among the top 50 teams in the country according to Golfstat.

Tuesday's final round will begin with tee times at 10 a.m. CT.
