Illinois Blasts Illinois State 14-3 in Series Opener

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -- Jack Yalowitz hit a three-run homer Friday to spark a five-run fourth as the Illinois baseball team cruised to a 14-3 win over Illinois State. The Illini led 10-1 by the end of the fifth in Illinois' eighth win in the last nine games.

Illinois (15-4) got a quality start from Andy Fisher (3-1) to back up the offense. Fisher went six easy innings, allowing only one run on two hits and striking out seven. 

The Illini lineup was led by a two-hit, three-RBI day from Yalowitz and three hits and three runs from Grant Van Scoy. Yalowitz, Ben Troike, Branden Comia, Cam McDonald and Jacob Campbell all had two hits. 

The bottom four in the lineup (Yalowitz, Van Scoy, Michael Michalak, Campbell) combined to go 7-for-15 with eight runs and four RBIs. Nine Illini scored runs and 10 Illini had hits.

Van Scoy tied his career high in hits (3), Comia tied his career high in RBIs (3) and Campbell tied a career high in runs (3). 

Illinois and Illinois State are back at Illinois Field tomorrow at 1 p.m. CT. Sunday's series finale was changed to a 12 p.m. CT start.
