Illini Big Ten Tournament Notes

• Illinois has the third-most all-time Big Ten Tournament (BTT) wins with 27.

• Illinois owns the fourth-best all-time BTT winning percentage at .587 (27-19).

• Illinois has won two BTT championships (2003 and 2005), one of six conference schools to win multiple titles.

• Illinois is tied for the third-most BTT championship game appearances, having advanced to the title game six times.

• Illinois has advanced to the BTT semifinals 12 times, the second-most semifinal appearances of any school.

• Illinois has appeared in the BTT quarterfinals in all but three years, with those 17 appearances tied for fourth-most of any school.

• Illinois is 16-7 all-time in BTT games played at the United Center. The Illini have won two BTT titles, made the title game four times, and advanced to the semifinals seven times of the nine BTT held at the UC. Illinois has played 53 games all-time at the United Center, meanwhile, owning a record of 37-16.

• Illinois is a No. 11 seed in the BTT for the second time. In 1999, the Illini made a run to the BTT championship game as a No. 11 seed in Chicago, defeating No. 6 Minnesota, No. 3 Indiana and No. 2 Ohio State over three consecutive days. The '99 Illini remain the only No. 11 seed ever to advance to the BTT title game.

• Illinois owns a 15-6 record when playing their opening game of the BTT.

• Illinois is 1-1 on Wednesday in the BTT.

• Illinois faces No. 14 Northwestern in the BTT first round. Illinois is 17-6 all-time in the BTT when seeded higher.

• Wednesday marks Illinois' third BTT match-up with Northwestern, and the first since 2005. The Illini are 2-0 against the Wildcats in the BTT, winning Quarterfinal match-ups in 2003 and 2005.

• Illinois and Northwestern split the regular season series with both teams winning at home, the Wildcats claiming a 68-66 victory on Jan. 3 in Evanston and the Illini winning 81-76 just 10 days ago in Champaign (box scores and recaps on p. 11).

• Illinois' active BTT scoring leader is junior Kipper Nichols, who has totaled 34 points over two games the previous two years. Nichols set Illinois' single-game BTT scoring record last season with a career-high 31 points vs. Iowa.

• Other current Illini with BTT experience are senior Aaron Jordan (3 G, 11 PTS) and sophomores Trent Frazier (1 G, 13 PTS) and Da'Monte Williams (1 G, 0 PTS).
