"Tomorrow is a new day," said head coach Dan Hartleb. "I've told these guys you have to learn from everything you do, both good and bad. We need to learn a lot from this."

Zac Taylor led the offense with two runs scored, including a solo home run in the second inning. Taylor had a single to increase his season average to .406 and a stolen base, his Big Ten leading ninth steal.

Michael Massey scored Illinois' other run after singling in the sixth. Massey has hit safely in eight straight games dating back to last season and reached in nine straight.
