New England Patriots and former Fighting Illini offensive guard Ted Karras finished off his third NFL season as a Super Bowl Champion once again, helping the Patriots to a 13-3 victory of the Los Angeles Rams in Super Bowl LIII Sunday in Atlanta.
A sixth-round pick by the Patriots in the 2016 NFL Draft, Karras saw action on field goal and PAT protection as the Patriots won their sixth Super Bowl title. It was Karras' second Super Bowl title, as he also helped the Patriots win in 2017 during his rookie season. Karras has played in the Super Bowl in each of his first three seasons, as New England lost to the Eagles in 2018.
Karras played in 16 games during the 2018 season (13 regular season games and three playoff games). He did make two starts at center during weeks nine and 10, playing 100 percent of offensive snaps in those two games. For the season, Karras was in on 232 snaps (171 on offense and 61 on special teams).
It was the 31st time an Illinois alumnus ended a season on the field as a Super Bowl Champion. A total of 24 former Illini players, inlcluding Karras, have Super Bowl tiles.
