Opening statement…
"To put two Big Ten games together like that, of course, it is big for our program. Talking offensively, we needed to be able to run the football and we did that. And, of course, protect the football, no turnovers, which we did and was big. Defensively, we need to be able to stop the run and not give up the big plays, and the past couple of weeks we've haven't given up a lot of big plays and take the ball away, all the things that you need to do. I think we got all of our defensive goals, so a lot of good things with that. And, of course, Blake Hayes is just a weapon that he brings to our football team of making them go the distance. So, a lot of good things happened. Had a few injuries from the game, Jamal Woods didn't finish the game, Oluwole Betiku Jr. didn't play, hopefully we get some of those guys back and get ready for Rutgers this week. So we celebrated it, of course, like last week, have moved on. It seems like that [Wisconsin] game was a long time ago. This is always a big weekend for us, Dads Day here on campus. I know the guys are really excited about that. Its a lot of pressure, walking into the stadium with your father or someone who is representing in that role for you. Of course, getting to three Big Ten wins would be huge for our program."
On what the team has done to lessen missed tackles in the past few games…
"We have tackling drills. We've been going over tackling throughout. We harp on it, we work on leverage, all of those things that you need to do to try to avoid it. Also, personnel wise, we've had some changes. I think it helps when you get a guy like Stanley Green back who has played a lot of football. You get your two safeties who you wanted to start the season together, that has helped too. And getting the secondary solidified is as big as anything. Because when you give up a lot of good plays, it comes to the secondary to get them down, and they've done a good job at that."
On how proud he is of his teams success so far in the second half of the season…
"Well, IÂ just know that we had to do that. And that's what life tells you, you can't live in the past. We knew we had a second half of football coming up. And when you have disappointment early, that's not the end of the game. I just try to make a comparison to a football game. If you're behind at the half, what has been decided? Nothing really, it's how you perform in the second half of the game and it's how you perform in the second half of the season. Our players are buying in to that. It also helps when you come out in the third quarter and play well right away and get some momentum going. And that's where we are. All we have accomplished so far is that we have momentum in the second half, and we need to ride this momentum."
On the move to corner for Tony Adams…
"I think you keep working and you look at who you have that week and what is the best combination you could use to win. We had everyone healthy, and this combination of the guys in this spot that we like. Tony Adams at the corner position with Nate Hobbs, Stanley Green, and Sydney Brown at the safety position. This is our best group that we have through injuries and just how it played out. We've gotten to this point and we like it. Tony Adams in particular, he had a big interception to help us win the week before and of course he started it off that way. But it hasn't just been the interception, he has been tackling well and in his overall play. But, Nate Hobbs hasn't had as many big flash plays but i think he has put his two best games together this last two weeks."Â
On what he has seen from Rutgers as a team this year…
"I know they have had the coaching change and some different things have happened. But, defensively, they haven't changed schemes, and the same athletes are there. And offensively there has been a change, especially of late. When you have a head coach who had the quarterback in high school, and had a history together. And when you have a quarterback who ran the ball over 20 times the past week. The quarterback ran the ball a lot more this past week, and the offense that they have put up the most points they've had all year. But we assume we will see more of that. Just like we're talking about you have to grow each week, find out more about yourself. One of the best offensive lines we will play against this week. So good talent, we will need to play better ball and then we played some of the time this past game."
