WINDERMERE, Florida –  Fighting Illini men's golf opened play at the Tavistock Collegiate Invitational on Sunday, posting a team score 3-over par (291). The Orange and Blue were led by seniors Bryan Baumgarten and Michael Feagles who sit among the top 20 individuals after one round of play. Baumgarten led Illinois with a 1-under par 71 on Sunday, while Feagles closed the day at even par.

Host team, UCF, leads the tournament field at 8-under par through 18 holes, while Florida (-3), LSU (-1) and California (-1) are also among the top teams on the leaderboard. Illinois is joined by Texas Tech in a tie for seventh as a team.

Baumgarten got off to a hot start at Isleworth Golf and Country Club, recording four birdies on his front nine, including a stretch of three straight. After a bogey on the eighth hole, he made the turn at 3-under par. Baumgarten used another birdie on his back nine to negate late bogeys in the day. He is tied for 12th heading into tomorrow's second round.

Just one stroke back, Feagles carded two birdies on Sunday to negate two bogeys and finish at even par (72). He is tied for 19th individually.

Sophomore Adrien Dumont de Chassart is 1-over par and tied for 29th heading into Monday's second round of play. He tallied two birdies for the Orange and Blue.

Freshman Jerry Ji shot 3-over par on Sunday, while senior Giovanni Tadiotto shot 4-over. They are tied for 46th and 56th, respectively.

THE TOURNAMENT

Hosted by UCF and West Virginia, teams will play 18 holes each day, October 20-22, on the Par 72, 7,544-yard course at Isleworth Golf & Country Club, with tee times beginning at 7 a.m. CT. Recognized as one of the premier collegiate events in the country, the Tavistock Collegiate Invitational welcomes the nation's top teams each season. The 2019 field is no different, as the tournament field includes several teams ranked among the top 50 in the country according to Golfweek. In addition to the No. 31-ranked Illini, the field includes No. 2 Texas Tech, No. 14 Arizona State, No. 15 Auburn,  No. 20 Texas, No. 25 West Virginia, No. 26 LSU, No. 27 Vanderbilt, No. 34 South Carolina, No. 40 Minnesota, No. 45 Florida, No. 50 California, Augusta, UCF, UNLV and West Virginia.
