
Final Results
CARMEL, INDIANA – Fighting Illini men's golf closed play at the Crooked Stick Invitational on Tuesday, battling windy conditions to finish in seventh as a team with a total score 24-over par. Two Illini earned spots among the top 25 individuals, led by senior Michael Feagles who tied for 13th with a 54-hole tally 4-over par. Feagles was joined among the top individuals by freshman Jerry Ji, who tied for 19th.
Georgia (+3) earned the tournament title at Crooked Stick, with Vanderbilt taking the runner-up position at 4-over par. Northwestern and Marquette (+15) Â tied for third in the field. Â
"This was a tough week, and this is not how we look to close out a tournament," head coach Mike Small said. "There was not a lot of consistency among our lineup, with each of our players having stretches that hurt them, and as a result our team could not get traction on this challenging, yet fair golf course."
Feagles got off to a hot start on Tuesday, posting three birdies in his first five holes. He made the turn at 1-under par, and shot even on the back nine. He was 1-under (71) for the day on Tuesday for a total score 4-over. Also finishing among the top 20, Ji carded three birdies in his final round of play. He shot 5-over on Tuesday to close play 6-over par in total.
Sophomore Tommy Kuhl shot 4-over on Tuesday, also adding early birdies in the final round for the Orange and Blue. He tied for 28th individually at 8-over. Fellow Sophomore Adrien Dumont de Chassart closed tournament play just one stroke back from Kuhl with a total score 9-over par. He tied for 32nd in the tournament field with junior Brendan O'Reilly who represented the Illini as an individual in the field. O'Reilly shot 4-over par on Tuesday and carded two birdies in his round.
Senior Bryan Baumgarten finished the tournament 11-over par after a final round tally of 7-over. He was joined in a tie for 40th with sophomore Noah Gillard who used a 1-over par (73) final round to also close play at 11-over par in total.
THE TOURNAMENT
The 22nd-ranked Illini squad was joined by 13 other teams in the field at Crooked Stick, including hosts Indiana and Purdue, No. 20 Georgia, RV Vanderbilt, RV  Marquette, RV Ball State, Northwestern, Ohio State, Michigan, Kentucky, College of Charleston, UNC Greensboro and Cincinnati. Teams played 54 holes on the Par 72, 7,290-yard course at Crooked Stick, which has played host to several major championships including the 2012 and 2016 BMW Championships.

The Orange and Blue have a quick turnaround this week as the team will head to the Tavistock Collegiate Invitational in Windermere, Florida this weekend. Beginning on Sunday, October 20, the three-day, 54-hole tournament traditionally welcomes some of the nation's toughest competition to the 7,544-yard course at Isleworth Golf and Country Club.
