TULSA, Okla. – Juniors Sasha Belaya, Asuka Kawai and Mia Rabinowitz concluded play at the 2019 ITA Women's All-Americans Championships on Sunday, Oct. 13.
During the pre-qualifying rounds of singles competition on Oct. 5 through Oct. 6, Belaya advanced to the third round after defeating Satsuki Takamura of Hawaii 6-4, 7-5, in the first round, and Texas Tech's Margarita Skriabana 7-5, 3-6, 6-1. The Melbourne, Fla., native fell to the second-seeded Maria Linares of Kansas State 6-4, 3-6, 6-4.
The 11th-seeded Rabinowitz defeated Lina Hohnhold of Memphis 6-2, 6-4 in the first round of the pre-qualifiers to advance in play. The Tenafly, N.J., native came up short as UCF's Marie Mattel defeated Rabinowitz in the second round.
On Monday, Oct. 7, Kawai and Rabinowitz paired up for the first round of the qualifying doubles competition. The duo fell to Daria Frayman and Brianna Shvets of Princeton 8-4, but continued play in the first round of the consolation bracket. The pair defeated Baylor's Jessica Hinojosa and Livia Kraus 8-7 (4). The remaining rounds of the consolation bracket were cut short, as the tournament faced several rain delays.
Due to the rain delays, Kawai started singles competition in the main draw on Thursday, Oct. 10. Falling 7-5, 4-6, 6-4 in the round of 64 to opponent Solymar Colling of San Diego, Kawai competed in the main draw singles consolation bracket. The Palatine, Ill., native advanced to the second round Friday, Oct. 11 after defeating Yufei Long of Boston College 6-3, 6-7 (2), 6-1, but came up short as Furman's Katarina Kozarov won the match 4-6, 6-2, 6-3.
The Illini are back in action Wednesday, Oct. 16 through Tuesday, Oct. 22 at the 2019 ITA Midwest Regional in East Lansing, Mich.
