STILLWATER, Okla. - The No. 18 Fighting Illini women's tennis team fell to the Virginia Cavaliers, 4-3 on Saturday afternoon at the Greenwood Tennis Center. The match wrapped up the annual ITA Kick-Off Weekend, as the Illini will now get set to take on No. 4 Duke on February 3, in Durham, N.C.
Doubles action saw the Illini grab the early one point advantage for the first time this season, as the pairs of Switkes/Duong and Kawai/Rabinowitz picked up wins on courts two and three. Sophomore Sasha Belaya gave Illinois a quick 2-0 lead with a dominating 6-0, 6-0 win over Favero on court six. Fellow-sophomore Mia Rabinowitz helped the Illini build on that lead, picking up a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Munera on court five.
After UVA wins on courts four, three and one, the match came down to the matchup on court two. The Cavaliers clinched after Glozman picked up a 6-3, 4-6, 7-5 victory over senior Jaclyn Switkes.
