CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -- The Illinois baseball team played Indiana State to a 5-5 tie Saturday at Illinois Field in a 13 1/3 inning game. The Illini finish 1-0-1 in fall ball games against outside competition.Â
Illinois' first nine pitchers combined to throw nine scoreless innings and allow only three hits. The Illini held a 5-0 lead through the first nine frames.Â
Illinois opened the scoring on Zac Taylor's sac fly in the first inning to score Ben Troike. The game stayed 1-0 until Jack Yalowitz and Zac Taylor produced run-scoring doubles in the sixth.
David Craan drove in a run in the seventh on a groundout and Troike added a two-out RBI single to make it 5-0.
The game ended in the top of the 14th inning with 1 out.Â
Illinois will host its annual Orange & Blue World Series next week Wednesday-Friday at Illinois Field.Â
