D1Baseball.com Top 50 Hitting Prospects
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -- Illinois junior Michael Massey was ranked the No. 38 MLB Draft hitting prospect in the nation according to D1Baseball.com, the website announced Wednesday. Massey is the highest ranked Big Ten hitter on the top-50 list.
Massey slashed .326/.369/.514 last season with six homers, 17 doubles and 46 RBIs. He was a second team All-Big Ten selection, the DQ Classic/Big Ten-Pac-12 Challenge MVP, one time Big Ten Player of the Week honoree and two-time IFund Scholar-Athlete of the Week honoree.
Massey played 23 games in the Cape Cod League this summer, the top collegiate baseball league in the nation. He hit .280 (23-82) for the Brewster Whitecaps with a homer and eight RBIs. Massey was one of the top hitters in the league before an injury ended his summer season.
The second baseman was also one of the top defensive players in the nation last season, winning the Rawlings Gold Glove for second base. He made only one error in 2018 and went on a 60-game errorless streak between his freshman and sophomore seasons.Â
