WCGA Release
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – Ten Illinois women's gymnasts received Scholastic All-American Awards for the 2017-18 academic year as announced by the Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Association (WCGA) on Monday.
Recent graduates Bridget Hodan, Jordyn Givens, Becca Cuppy, and Sarah Lyons, along with current Illini Haylee Roe, Kasey Meeks, Kylie Noonan, Mary Jane Horth, Nicole Biondi, and Tessa Phillips were recognized for their efforts in the classroom.
A record number of 760 (55%) women's collegiate gymnasts were recognized with the prestigious honor by the WCGA. Under some of the most rigorous criteria in college athletics, student-athletes must have a cumulative 3.50 GPA or higher to be placed on the WCGA Scholastic All-America team.
By placing 10 on the Scholastic All-American list, the Illini lead the Big Ten for the most selections in the conference. The orange and blue also finished the academic year with a noteworthy 3.5272 GPA, representing the 27th highest total in the NCAA and leading the Big Ten with the highest GPA.
The Illini also earned 10 spots on the Academic All-Big Ten team with Givens, Hodan, Horth, Lyons, and Roe among the honorees.
