CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The Fighting Illini scrimmaged in front of over 1,000 fans on Saturday at Memorial Stadium. The situational, non-tackle scrimmage featured 100 plays plus a lot of special teams run-throughs. It marked the final open practice of training camp. The team now will begin preparation for the season opener against Kent State, so the rest of training camp will be closed to the public.
Fan Appreciation Day
Following Saturday's practice, the Illini spent an hour on the field signing autographs, taking photos and spending time with fans on the field.
Goldenberg Gift
Illinois Director of Athletics Josh Whitman announced another million-dollar gift towards the completion of the Football Performance Center. Mark and Bonnie Goldenberg, three-time graduates of the U of I, have pledged $1.2 million to assist the Fighting Illini football program.
