TORONTO – Former Illini All-American and Wimbledon finalist, Kevin Anderson, gave everything he had in a hard fought battle against #NextGenATP Rising Star Stefanos Tsitsipas (GRE). Anderson won the tiebreaker in the first set, but was ultimately outlasted by the youngster 7-6(4), 4-6, 6-7(7) at Aviva Centre in the Rogers Cup semifinals. This marked a career-high finish for Anderson at an ATP World Tour Masters 1000 tournament.
In the quarterfinals, Anderson crushed No. 5 seed Grigor Dimitrov (BUL) 6-2, 6-2 to reach his first Rogers Cup semifinals, marking his second ATP World Tour Masters 1000 semifinals of his career. Lasting only an hour and six minutes, this was only the second time that Anderson defeated Dimitrov. The first being in the first round of the 2012 SAP Open in San Jose, Calif.
Anderson opened up rounds two and three with comfortable victories over qualifiers Evgeny Donskoy of Russia and Illya Ivashka of Belarus. The No. 4 seed received a bye in the first round due to finishing in the top eight for seeding.
