
Cunningham, Sounders Women win WPSL National Title

Norman, Oklahoma - Fighting Illini soccer rising junior Jaelyn Cunningham and the Seattle Sounders Women earned the Women's Premier Soccer League (WPSL) National title on Sunday, defeating Pensacola FC, 3-1, at Gordon Drummond Field. The Sounders Women finished the season with a 10-0-1 record, winning their first national title since joining the league in 2016.
Cunningham was joined by fellow Illini Patricia George, Morgan Maroney and Hope Breslin in Norman over the weekend as the three advanced to the WPSL National Semifinals with the Chicago Red Stars Reserves. The Red Stars Reserves were defeated by Pensacola FC in the semifinal round.
