IOWA CITY, Iowa – The No. 8 Fighting Illini men's tennis team fell to the No. 3 Ohio State Buckeyes, 4-0 on Sunday afternoon in the Big Ten Tournament final. Illinois moves to 21-7 overall this season.
The Illini dropped the doubles point on Sunday with losses at the No. 1 and 2 positions. Ohio State extended its lead to 2-0 with No. 5 Mikael Torpegaard's 6-3, 6-1 win over No. 16 senior Aleks Vukic. Fellow-senior Aron Hiltzik fell to JJ Wolf on court two, 6-2, 6-3. In the end, Ohio State's John McNally clinched the match, 6-2, 6-3 on court three to seal the title for Ohio State.
The Illini will now wait for Tuesday afternoon when the NCAA announces the selections to the 2018 NCAA tournament field. The selection show will be streamed live on NCAA.com at 4:30 pm.Â
