MINNEAPOLIS  –  The No. 3 seed Fighting Illini women's tennis team fell 4-3 to the Michigan Wolverines in a heartbreaking fashion in the Big Ten tournament semifinals on Saturday. Illinois moves to 21-5 overall this season.
After dropping the doubles point, the Illini got on the board with freshman Emilee Duong's 6-2, 6-3 win on court six. Michigan regained the lead with a victory at the No. 5 position. Freshman Mia Rabinowitz tied the match with her 13th-straight victory on court four, 6-2, 6-3 against Alyvia Jones.
Junior Jaclyn Switkes gave Illinois a 3-2 advantage after avenging an early season loss to Kate Fahey, 6-3, 6-4. In the end, junior Daniela Pedraza-Novak and freshman Asuka Kawai fell on their respective courts and Michigan took the match.
The Illini will now wait for Tuesday afternoon when the NCAA announces the selections to the 2018 NCAA tournament field. The selection show will be streamed live on NCAA.com at 4 pm. Â
