MAINEVILLE, Ohio - After one round of play at the Big Ten Championships, the 22nd-ranked Fighting Illini women's golf team sits in fourth place with a team total of 292 (+4). Senior Grace Park and junior Bing Singhsumalee lead the way for UI and are tied for fourth overall after carding identical first round scores of 71 (-1).
"We are in the thick of things and will look to get off to a stronger start tomorrow," head coach Renee Slone said. "To climb the leaderboard, we need to capitalize on the opportunities we give ourselves and continue to remain focused on our process and the things that we can control."
Next up on the leaderboard for the Illini is senior Chayanid Prapassarangkul, who sits tied for 21st overall after a first round total of 74 (+2). Tied for 41st place are senior Dana Gattone and freshman Ali Morallos. Both golfers carded a day one round of 76 (+4). Sophomore Tristyn Nowlin withdrew from competition.
No. 11 Michigan State leads the way at 5-under par, followed by Maryland (E) and Ohio State (+1). Tied at 5th are No. 10 Northwestern and No. 31 Purdue (+5), followed by Michigan (+10), Iowa (+11), No. 37 Wisconsin (+11), Nebraska (+12), Indiana (+13), Minnesota (+14), Penn State (+21) and Rutgers (+24).
Second round play is set for tomorrow, with tee times beginning at 7:30 CT. A full list of pairings can be found here.
