Brown Collects B1G Athlete of the Week Award

URBANA, Ill. – Fighting Illini freshman Alex Brown was named the Big Ten Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday afternoon. Brown went 4-0 over the weekend as Illinois collected two wins against TCU and Virginia.

In singles play, Brown defeated two ITA Top-30 opponents at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions. In each match, the Urbandale, Iowa, native clinched both of Illinois' team wins. Along with fellow-freshman, Caleb Chakravarthi, the duo went 2-0 and clinched the doubles point against Virginia on Sunday. Brown and Chakravarthi are currently riding a four-match winning streak. The weekly award is the second for Brown this season and third for the Illinois men's tennis team. On Tuesday, Brown reached a career-high No. 50 singles ranking in the Oracle/ITA individual rankings.

Up next, the Orange and Blue cap a three-match homestand with the No. 19 Notre Dame Fighting Irish on Wednesday night at the Atkins Tennis Center. First serve is set for 6 pm.
