ROSEMONT, Ill. - Fighting Illini sophomore Bryan Baumgarten was chosen as the Big Ten Golfer of the Week on Wednesday, as announced by the league office. The weekly honor marks the first for Baumgarten in his career and the third for an Illini this season. 

Baumgarten earned the first individual tournament title of his career at the BIGHORN Invitational over the weekend. The Granite Bay, California, native, fired a career-low 205 (-11) through three rounds of play to take a three stroke lead over the tournament field in his home state. Baumgarten shot a season-low third-round score (67), closing the tournament with six birdies through his final nine holes. He shot at or under par on 50 of 54 holes played at BIGHORN Golf Club.  

Next up, Baumgarten and the Illini will head to Augusta, Georgia for the 3M Augusta Invitational. The tournament will take place March 31-April 1 at Forest Hills Golf Club. Stay tuned to FightingIllini.com for more on Illinois men's golf.
