CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - The third-ranked Fighting Illini men's gymnastics team couldn't overcome a pre-meet injury to senior Bobby Baker, as the team fell to No. 1 Oklahoma 412.700-399.700. Redshirt senior Chandler EgglestonĀ posted a season-best 14.450 on high bar to come away with the lone event title for the Illini.Ā
"Everybody was a little disoriented after Bobby went down," head coach Justin Spring said. "I was kind of hoping that our team would step up and sort of rise to the occasion, but that was a little unfair to expect because we competed how we have been competing and training in practice. If we had a great meet, we still could have beat [OU]. For a team that has the goals of winning a championship this year, we need to be that good with or without Bobby."
The Illini were on floor first and junior Alex Diab came away with the top total for the team, posting a 14.000 to place second overall on the event. On pommel horse, sophomore Michael Paradise came away with a 14.250 to place third.Ā
The Orange and Blue got career-best showings from both freshman Joel Diaz and sophomore Danny Graham on rings. Diaz finished with a 13.750, good for fourth place on the event, while Graham hit a 13.650 to place fifth. DiabĀ posted the top Illini total on the event, finishing with a 14.350.
On vault, freshman Max DiabĀ placed third with a 14.550, while junior Johnny Jacobson wasn't far behind, posting a 14.350 to place fourth. Jacobson also came away with the best UI total on parallel bars, as the Syracuse, Utah, native scored a 14.250 to place second on the event.Ā
The lone event title for the Illini came on high bar, as redshirt senior Chandler EgglestonĀ posted a season-best 14.450 to win hisĀ first titleĀ on the event of the season.Ā

Looking Ahead
Saturday's meet marks the end of the regular season for the Illini, as the team will get set for the Big Ten Championships, held in Ann Arbor, Michigan, April 6 & 7.
"We've really got to be better in the gym and we have to increase our mental focus and intensity in the gym," Spring added. "We have to start to bring that intensity if we want a chance of hitting consistently in the postseason."
