URBANA, Ill.  – The No. 6 Fighting Illini women's tennis team defeated the Indiana Hoosiers, 6-1 on Saturday morning at the Atkins Tennis Center. Illinois improves to 11-2 overall this season and 2-1 in Big Ten play.

The Illini earned the early advantage on Saturday morning after clinching the doubles point. The No. 48-ranked duo of freshman Sasha Belaya and junior Daniela Pedraza-Novak moved up to the No. 1 singles position and earned a 6-2 win against Indiana's Whalen and Zavarotnaya. Junior Jaclyn Switkes and freshman Emilee Duong secured the point, 6-3 on court two.

In singles play, Belaya was first off the court with a dominant, 6-2, 6-2 win at the No. 5 position. Freshman Asuka Kawai then defeated Caitlin Bernard, 6-2, 6-4. Switkes clinched her fourth match for the Illini, 6-2, 6-2 on court one.

Up next, the Orange and Blue host the Purdue Boilermakers on Sunday afternoon at 3 pm.

• Illinois has won 10-straight matches against Indiana.
