URBANA, Ill.  – The Fighting Illini women's tennis team swept the Furman Paladins, 7-0 on Friday afternoon in the Atkins Tennis Center. Illinois improves to 5-1 overall this season, the best start for the program since the 2012 season.

The Illini secured the doubles point for the fifth time on Friday. Freshman Sasha Belaya and junior Daniela Pedraza-Novak defeated Furman's Kozarov and Greene, 6-3 on court one. Junior Jaclyn Switkes and senior Grace Tapak clinched the point, 6-4 at the No. 2 position.

In singles play, Belaya was first off the court with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Georgie Walker at the No. 5 position. Tapak was next off the court defeating Carol Kerman, 6-2, 6-3. Freshman Mia Rabinowitz clinched the Illinois victory for the second-straight dual match on court three with a 6-2, 6-1 win against Aryn Greene.

With Illinois's dual match against Notre Dame on Sunday morning being cancelled due to weather concerns, the Illini will take on the Iowa Hawkeyes next Saturday morning at 11 am at the Atkins Tennis Center.
