URBANA, Ill. – The No. 10 Fighting Illini men's tennis team swept the No. 23 California Golden Bears, 4-0 on Friday night at the Atkins Tennis Center. Illinois improves to 4-1 overall this season.
The Illini clinched the doubles point for the fifth-straight match on Friday. The freshmen pairing of Alex Brown and Caleb Chakravarthi topped Brumm and Barretto, 6-1 on court three. Sophomore Aleks Kovacevic and Zeke Clark clinched the point of court two with a 6-2 victory over Draper and Molloy.
In singles play, Brown was first off the court with a dominating 6-0, 6-2 win over Jack Molloy. Seniors Aleks Vukic defeated No. 73-ranked Billy Griffith, 6-1, 6-3 on court one. Chakravarthi clinched the contest at the No. 6 position with a 6-2, 6-3 win against Dominic Barretto.
Up next, Illinois hosts No. 5 Stanford on Saturday night at the Atkins Tennis Center. First serve is set for 6 pm.
