
CHAMPAIGN - Fighting Illini men's golf will continue the spring season at the Louisiana Classics next week. A two-day, 54-hole event, the 33rd annual Louisiana Classics is hosted by the University of Louisiana, Feb. 26-27.
"We've had a really strong couple weeks of practice and we're really looking forward to getting outside consistently for a few days and competing," head coach Mike Small said of the upcoming event. "This tournament has been a staple in our schedule for many years and it serves a purpose for our program at this time every spring. It's a tricky, challenging golf course and we'll be competing with a lot of strong southern teams."
Tournament play will begin with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. CT on Monday. Teams will play 36 continuous holes. The final round of play will begin at 7:30 a.m. CT on Feb. 27, and players will tee off from the first and 10th holes.Â
The No. 11 Illini will join 14 other teams in the field at the Louisiana Classics including: No. 3 Texas A&M, No. 26 Louisville, No. 28 Kent State, Louisiana-Lafayette, Southern Miss, Sam Houston State, Rice, UMKC, Toledo, ULM, McNeese, Mississippi State, Texas State and UTSA.Â
