CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – After strong starts to the dual season, both sophomore Jimena Martinez and senior Megan Vuong have been selected to compete in the first-ever ACC/Big Ten Challenge. The event, hosted by Purdue University, will be held Nov. 10-11 at the Morgan J. Burke Aquatic Center. Saturday's action will be available on BTN Plus, while Sunday's events will be broadcasted live on Big Ten Network.
"Having the opportunity to represent the Big Ten Conference is very special," head coach Sue Novitsky said. "When you combine that with racing against some of the fastest swimmers in the country, it is going to give our swimmers great experience to draw from at big competitions."
The pair of Illini swimmers will each compete in one event at the meet, as Vuong will swim the opening event on Saturday, the 400 medley relay, while Martinez will take part in the first event on Sunday, the 200 medley relay.
Swimming participants were determined using a similar selection process to that of the College Challenge, where at least two males and two females from each institution were designated to compete, but no more than five males and five females from each school. Numbers varied based on men's and women's swimming program membership, as well as personal event times and diving results.
